Gujarat election result: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is heading for a seventh straight victory in the Gujarat Assembly elections, taking a historic lead as counting of votes continues on Thursday, 8 December. Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has said that the BJP victory in more than 155 out of 182 constituencies in the Gujarat Assembly Polls is a reflection of the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the schemes implemented by him.

He said that in Himachal Pradesh there is a change of government once in 5 years, he said that BJP will form the new government by winning more than 140 constituencies in next year elections in Karnataka. Trends suggest that the saffron party may see its highest win ever in Gujarat. “The win is a result of PM Modi’s development-focused governance,” Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said.

The counting of votes and consequent declaration of results of the high-stakes Gujarat Assembly Election is today (December 8), sealing the fate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) among other parties. The BJP has been ruling the state for the past 27 years and is confident to win a majority in the state, this time as well.

The BJP had announced its Chief Ministerial candidate as Bhupendra Patel who is the current CM of the state. On the other hand, AAP had announced Isudan Gadhvi as its CM face for Gujarat. There are 182 single-member constituencies in Gujarat for which 1621 candidates will contest.

Other parties contesting the Gujarat elections are All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), and Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP).

Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Gujarat has given an unprecedented mandate to the BJP, who is committed to development and public welfare by rejecting those who politicize empty promises, reveries and appeasement. This hard win has shown that every section be it women, youth or farmers are with BJP whole heartedly.”
