Karnataka former CM BS Yediyurappa bags Karnataka’s best legislator award

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Friday named former chief minister BS Yediyurappa as the best legislator of the year 2020-21.

“In the lines of the best parliamentarian award being given in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha annually, Karnataka will have the best legislator award for members of the Legislative Assembly from this year,” Karnataka assembly speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri as sai media.

According to a report by The Hindu, a six-member committee headed by the Speaker, with Deputy Speaker, Chief Minister of the state, Leader of the Opposition, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, and one member nominated by the Speaker as members on board will select the best legislator.

Contribution to their respective constituency, overall experience as a legislator, debating skills in the House, interest in issues linked to the public interest, issues raised in the House, knowledge of Kannada and behaviour with fellow legislators are some of the eligibility criteria.

Yediyurappa had announced his resignation in July while delivering a speech at a function to mark the completion of his two years in office. In a tweet, BSY had said that it was an honour for him to have served the state for two years.

“I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for allowing me to continue even after 75 years of age. I will be involved in party-building activities in future,” he had said.
