As former CM Siddaramaiah and KPCC president DK Shivakumar are strong aspirants, curiosity has arisen as to who will become the chief minister of the state. It is thought that Siddaramaiah, who is currently contesting from Varuna constituency, is the Congress High Command’s priority.

There was confusion about which constituency Siddaramaiah would contest from. Later he contested from Varuna constituency and defeated BJP’s candidate V Somanna.

Siddaramaiah, a strongman from the Kuruba community known as an Ahinda (an acronym for Minorities, Backward Classes and Dalits) leader, had earlier predicted a majority for the Congress with over 125 seats. 75-year-old Siddaramaiah has announced that this will be his last election battle.

60-year-old DK Shivakumar, who is known as the trouble shooter of the Congress, has retained his constituency Kanakpura by handily defeating BJP’s Revenue Minister R Ashoka. Known as ‘Kanakpur Bande’, Shivakumar is a strong aspirant for the post of Chief Minister.

Starting his political career in the 1980s, DKS has held various responsibilities from Congress worker to ministerial positions. The main reason why Congress high command DK Shivakumar was considered for the post of CM was his problem solving ability.

His plus point is that he has come to the party’s aid by protecting MLAs and MPs at resorts in case of defection. It remains to be seen who the Congress high command will select from these two leaders.
