Charanjit Singh Channi elected as New Punjab Chief Minister, Swearing-in Tomorrow at 11 AM

Charanjit Singh Channi, a Dalit leader, has finally been elected as the new Punjab Chief Minister replacing Captain Amarinder Singh who resigned amid intense dissent yesterday. He is set to take oath at 11 am tomorrow, he told the media after leaving the Raj Bhawan.

He was accompanied by a very triumphant looking Navjot Sidhu. After hectic parleys that tipped the scales in various directions in the last 24 tumultuous hours, Channi’s name was picked as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party on Sunday.

Earlier, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s name was proposed unanimously by all Congress MLAs to be the next Punjab chief minister and their decision has been conveyed to the party high-command, MLA Pritam Kotbhai said today. The AICC had also backed the decision.
