US ambassador Sergio Gor visits Bengaluru, praises city’s energy and innovation
Bengaluru: The newly appointed United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, visited Bengaluru and lauded the city’s vibrant energy, innovation ecosystem and cultural charm.
During his visit, he was hosted by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who described the interaction as a meaningful step in strengthening India–US ties. Taking to social media platform X, Ambassador Gor expressed admiration for the city’s dynamism.
“Just arrived in Bengaluru! From startups to street food, Bengaluru’s energy is unmatched!” he wrote, thanking Tejasvi Surya for the warm hospitality. The envoy also shared a photograph of the two leaders enjoying local cuisine, highlighting the city’s unique blend of global technology and local traditions.
Responding on X, Tejasvi Surya said he was delighted to welcome the US Ambassador to India to Bengaluru. He noted that their interaction over masala dosa and strong filter coffee in Indiranagar led to an engaging discussion on the growing India–US partnership, particularly in trade, technology and innovation.
The MP stated that the talks focused on the expanding cooperation between the two democracies following recent developments in bilateral trade engagements.
According to him, Bengaluru plays a pivotal role in advancing this partnership, especially in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital infrastructure.
Surya also mentioned introducing the Ambassador to “Namma Auto,” giving him a glimpse of the city’s everyday life through an autorickshaw ride. He described the experience as symbolic of Bengaluru’s character — where tradition and cutting-edge innovation coexist seamlessly. “From masala dosa to machine learning, Bengaluru’s journey reflects the perfect blend of heritage and high technology,” he remarked.
Highlighting the city’s global economic footprint, Surya pointed out that more than 700 American companies operate in Bengaluru. He added that the city contributes around 43 per cent of India’s total software exports and houses nearly 40 per cent of the country’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs).
These factors, he said, position Bengaluru at the forefront of India–US economic collaboration. The visit comes at a time when India and the United States are seeking to deepen strategic, technological and commercial engagement.
Observers believe such high-level interactions at the city level further strengthen people-to-people ties and institutional partnerships between the two nations.
With its thriving startup ecosystem, strong presence of multinational corporations and reputation as India’s technology capital, Bengaluru continues to serve as a bridge between innovation-driven economies.
The Ambassador’s visit has once again underscored the city’s growing global significance in shaping the next phase of India–US cooperation.
