Supreme court declines plea alleging threats from CM Siddaramaiah

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Thursday refused to entertain a petition alleging threats from Siddaramaiah over a property dispute, advising the petitioner to approach the appropriate forum in Karnataka.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta heard the matter and made it clear that the apex court should not be used as a platform for political battles. The bench observed that if the petitioner had grievances, she should seek relief before the Karnataka High Court or other competent authorities.

The petition was filed by Mysuru-based Sushma S. Aradhya, who alleged that she was facing threats and intimidation in connection with her property in Karnataka. Representing her before the court, her counsel claimed that the petitioner was unable to return to Karnataka due to safety concerns.

“My client is being threatened and is unable to go back to Karnataka. She is being forced to stay in Delhi due to fear for her safety. She only wants to live peacefully in her own house, but that has become impossible,” the counsel submitted.

The petition further alleged that unidentified persons had attacked her residence in January, pelting stones, vandalising the property, and attempting to forcibly कब्जा it. Despite filing multiple police complaints and securing court orders, the threats allegedly continued unabated.

Significantly, the petitioner accused that these actions were being carried out at the behest of the Chief Minister, a claim that added a political dimension to the case. However, the Supreme Court refrained from delving into the merits of the allegations at this stage.

The bench reiterated that such disputes involving law and order and property issues fall within the jurisdiction of local courts and authorities. It advised the petitioner to approach the Karnataka High Court for appropriate relief and legal remedies.

With the apex court declining to hear the plea, the petitioner is now expected to pursue the matter at the state level. The development comes amid heightened political sensitivity in Karnataka, where allegations involving top leadership often trigger sharp reactions from rival parties.
