Rosa Bonheur 200th birth anniversary: Google special tribute to artist

Google on Wednesday celebrated the 200th birth anniversary of French artist Rosa Bonheur. She was born on March 16, 1822 in Bordeaux, France. She was mainly a painter of animals. Rosa Bonheur 200th birth anniversary: Google special tribute to artist.

It is said that Bonheur’s successful career have inspired a “future generation of women in the arts” which is known for her realist style. Rosa Bonheur, well known as a painter of animals (animalière), was depicted on the search engine’s homepage in a similar manner.

The Google’s doodle showcased an artist sitting under a tree, with a flock of sheep, where Bonheur was seen painting in a natural setting. She was born on March 16, 1822, in France (Bordeaux). Her early artistic education was taken care by her father, a minor landscape painter.

Paying tribute to the artist today, Google blog post said, that her aspirations for a career in the arts were unconventional for women of the time, after following and learning the development of artistic traditions and preparing sketches for years before immortalizing them on canvas.

Her work gained fame from 1841 to 1853 after her work were exhibited at the prestigious Paris Salon. Most of her well-known work, is exhibited at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 1865, French Empress Eugénie bestowed her with one of the nation’s most prestigious honours, the Legion of Honor.
