Rising Outrage Over Crimes Against Women Under Yogi Government
Concerns intensify across Uttar Pradesh as opposition leaders allege increasing crimes against women, mishandling of cases, and systemic pressure on victims’ families following recent Ghazipur incident.

The recent murder of a teenage girl in Ghazipur has triggered widespread anger and renewed political confrontation in Uttar Pradesh. The case, involving a 16 year old girl from the Vishwakarma community, has not only sparked protests but also drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders over the handling of crimes against women in the state.
Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Gandhi strongly condemned the situation, stating that incidents of sexual violence against women have reached alarming levels under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath. She alleged that every time such a crime occurs, the victim’s family is subjected to further distress, calling it an “unwritten rule” in the current system.
Highlighting the Ghazipur case, she pointed out that authorities initially hesitated to register the complaint and later allowed intimidation of the victim’s family. According to her, the involvement of individuals in positions of power created confusion and weakened the pursuit of justice. She argued that such patterns indicate a broader failure in protecting women across the state.
Priyanka Gandhi also criticized the assurances made by Narendra Modi regarding women’s safety, describing them as hollow promises. Referring to past incidents in regions like Unnao, Hathras, Prayagraj, and now Ghazipur, she claimed that the ruling establishment repeatedly sides with the powerful rather than supporting victims.
Echoing similar concerns, Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Anil Yadav alleged that crimes against marginalized and backward communities have increased significantly under the current administration. He further claimed that political workers raising their voices for justice in Ghazipur were attacked with the backing of authorities, accusing the government of encouraging such actions to suppress dissent.
The incident has intensified scrutiny on law enforcement practices and governance in Uttar Pradesh, with growing demands for accountability and stronger protection mechanisms for women across the state.
