Operation Sindoor Continues, Indian Army on High Alert Against Terror Threats in POK

Delhi : The Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor, launched last year targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), continues to be in effect, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said on Tuesday. Speaking at his first press conference of 2026, General Dwivedi warned Pakistan that any future attempts of aggression or misadventure would be met with a decisive and effective response.

General Dwivedi detailed that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army had fully prepared its personnel for any potential escalation. “We were completely ready to conduct ground operations if Pakistan committed any mistake,” he said, emphasizing the operational readiness and strategic foresight of the Indian forces.

The operation was launched on May 7, 2025, in direct response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The assault was carried out by the Pakistan-based proxy group, The Resistance Front, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Following three days of intense military engagements along the India-Pakistan border, a ceasefire agreement was signed on May 10, marking the conclusion of the immediate conflict.

General Dwivedi described Operation Sindoor as an example of a “politically directed, yet operationally autonomous response,” highlighting how the Indian Army executed its mission with precision and minimal external interference. Over the 88-hour operation, the Army successfully dismantled multiple terrorist infrastructures and neutralized Pakistan-based strategies aimed at destabilizing the region.

“In this operation, we eliminated approximately 100 terrorists. During these 88 hours, the Indian Army demonstrated its ability to create significant operational disruption among the adversary. Should Pakistan attempt any provocation, our forces are fully prepared to conduct ground operations without delay,” General Dwivedi asserted.

Since the ceasefire, General Dwivedi noted that the situation in the western ranges and across Jammu and Kashmir remains “sensitive but firmly under control.” He also provided an overview of counterterrorism efforts in 2025, revealing that Indian forces neutralized 31 terrorists over the year. Of these, approximately 65 percent were of Pakistan origin. Operation Mahadev accounted for the elimination of three terrorists, reflecting the Army’s targeted approach to counterterrorism. The general further added that the number of local insurgents has now decreased to single digits, indicating significant operational success in the region.

The General’s remarks underline India’s commitment to safeguarding national security and sending a stern message to Pakistan regarding its support for cross-border terrorism. Operation Sindoor is being viewed as a model of proactive and strategic military engagement, reinforcing India’s preparedness to respond decisively to any threats in the future.
