Sources further said that the inauguration may tentatively take place on May 26, as it is the date on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath in 2014, though it is yet to be confirmed.

The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the new structure. However, sources said that the forthcoming Monsoon session, which is scheduled to begin in July, is not likely to be held in the new building.

Built at a cost of Rs 970 crore, the forthcoming Monsoon session is likely to be held in the new building in July. In July last year, the Prime Minister unveiled the National Emblem cast on the roof of the New Parliament Building. He also interacted with workers.

In addition to this, PM Modi will launch a “virtual walkthrough” of the upcoming museum at the British-era North and South Blocks on 18 May (Thursday). The new museum will cover an area of 1.17 lakh sq m with 950 rooms spread over a basement, ground, and two more floors.

Ancient artifacts and other rich collections of the National Museum here are planned to be shifted to the buildings of the North and South Blocks. The triangular-shaped building is built at an area of 64,500 square metres. This new sansad is a 4-storey building and can house 1,224 MPs.

The building has three main gates Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar. The new Parliament building will have separate entrances for VIPs, MPs, and visitors.

The new Parliament building will also have a grand Constitution Hall to showcase India’s democratic heritage, a lounge for members of Parliament, a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas, and ample parking space.
