The Union Cabinet on Tuesday lowered by 200 rupees the price of a 14.2 kilogramme LPG cooking gas cylinder. The decision was made as criticism of the Centre for its handling of rising inflation has grown. “On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Onam, the government has decided to reduce the price of domestic cylinders by Rs 200,” said information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur.

“This is a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the women of the country.” At present, a 14.2kg LPG (liquified petroleum gas) cylinder costs Rs 1,103 in Delhi. Effective Wednesday, the price will fall to Rs 903. The price reduction also applies to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). For beneficiaries of PMUY, the price will be Rs 703. In March, the Centre had extended a Rs 200 per LPG cylinder subsidy under the scheme.

“The government will also provide 7.5 million new LPG connections for free under the Ujjwala scheme,” Thakur announced. At present, there are 96 million beneficiaries of the scheme.

Step to Book LPG Cylinder Using Umang App:

Follow the below-mentioned steps to book an LPG Cylinder using the Umang app:

Step 1: First, download the Umang app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your smartphone.

Step 2: After successfully downloading the app, register yourself by verifying your mobile number. Step 3: Select all the required details like the name of your service provider. You can even search for it too. Do ensure you have an account created on your service provider’s web portal.

Step 4: Proceed further and tap on the ‘Refill order’ and confirm your details by clicking on the’ Confirm’ button.

Step 5: The consumer can also opt for a cash-on-delivery option.

This means that after the additional subsidy, the price of LPG cylinder will now be Rs 703 in Delhi and Rs 702.50 in Mumbai for Ujjwala beneficiaries. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries are already getting a Rs 200 subsidy, but they will also benefit from the decrease in the rate.

That means the rate reduction for the ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ beneficiaries will be Rs 400 per cylinder,” Thakur said.
