Applicants can still provide alternative documents, such as school leaving certificates, matriculation certificates, PAN cards, driving license or extracts from service records, as proof of birth.

In addition to the revised birth certificate requirement, the government has introduced several changes to the format and security features of the passport. An important update is the removal of the applicant’s residential address from the final page of the passport.

Instead, this information is now embedded in a barcode, which can be scanned by immigration officials when needed. This change reduces the risk of misuse of personal details. Another update is the introduction of a new color-coded system for passports.

Government officials will be issued white passports. Red passports are designated for diplomats. Similarly, blue passports continue to be the norm for ordinary citizens. The government has also revised the policy to include parents’ names in passports.

In a move to benefit people from separated or single-parent families, the last page of the passport no longer displays the parent’s details. This adjustment ensures that applicants are not required to disclose unnecessary personal information
