IMD issued heavy rainfall alert in these states, school closed

The India meteorological department (IMD) said heavy rainfall and incessant rainfall over the past two days has caused a flood-like situation in parts of Madhya Pradesh. The state administration, on Tuesday, warned that a flood-like situation could also emerge in some places, especially near the catchment areas of Narmada, Tawa and other rivers. The weather department has predicted a continued spell of rain for the next two days. Schools in many districts such as Bhopal, Betul, Raisen, and Narmadapuram (Hoshangabad) have been shut. The meteorological department has also issued heavy rain alerts in Bhopal and Jabalpur for the next 24 hours.

Orange alert (meaning ‘be prepared’ for rough weather) was sounded in Indore, Ujjain and Narmadapuram divisions of Madhya Pradesh as well. “The rain is said to have been caused as a result of a depression that currently lies on the border between Odisha and Jharkhand that will trigger widespread rain over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and the adjoining areas with more rain expected in East and West Madhya Pradesh,” said a weather scientist in IMD’s regional office in Bhopal.

The maximum temperature in Mumbai is expected to hover around 27 degrees as the city may witness moderate to heavy rainfall alert on Wednesday. The weather department has predicted a “generally cloudy sky with moderate rain” in the city and suburbs, whereas heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places. The minimum temperature will stay around 24 degrees.

There will be a high tide of 4.39 metres in the Arabian Sea here at 2.57pm,” an official said. Mumbai witnessed heavy showers on Tuesday as the rain intensity increased in the city after a gap of a few days. According to civic officials, there was no report so far of any major water-logging in low-lying areas. Trains and bus services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were running normally.

 An alert has been issued in Jabalpur, Bhopal and neighbouring districts in Madhya Pradesh amid heavy rain forecast over the next 24 hours. Holiday has been declared in schools in Bhopal and Narmadapuram due to heavy rainfall. In Jabalpur, 13 of the 21 gates of Bargi Dam and six of eight gates of Barna dam have been opened to release excess water.
