Heavy Rainfall Alert in these southern states for next 4 days

Southwest monsoon season for Southern states with the recorded rainfall ranging from deficient to excess from state to state a fresh spell of heavy showers is set to lash the region this week. IMD issued Heavy Rainfall Alert in these southern states for next 4 days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) alert heavy Rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning, across Kerala and Karnataka for the next five days. Locally, the rainfall in these two states may amount to 50 mm/day in monsoon season.

In the same forecast period, scattered showers are expected to drench Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, while isolated rains may be observed over Telangana. More importantly, isolated heavy rainfall has been predicted over Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (June 7.

South Interior Karnataka on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 7-8), Kerala from Tuesday to Saturday (June 7-11) and Coastal Karnataka from Thursday to Saturday (June 9-11). In spite of a three-day-early arrival over Kerala, the southwest monsoon has remained weak thus far.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the northern limit of monsoon passes through Karwar, Chikmagalur, Bengaluru, Puducherry and Siliguri, having made further advancement into some more parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, along with southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal.

Moreover, in the first six days of June 2022, Kerala has recorded 62.8 mm rainfall a 48% ‘deficit’ compared to its opening week average of 120.6 mm. But on the other hand, Tamil Nadu (17.9 mm) has enjoyed 21% ‘excess’ precipitation, while Karnataka (34.6 mm) and Andhra (19.2 mm) have registered ‘normal’ rains thus far.
