Heavy Rainfall alert in state for 4 days, issued yellow alert

The southwestern coastal states are especially parched, receiving mostly deficient rainfall since the beginning of the month. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy rainfall in next five days across the state, with heavy rains expected on July 23 and 24 in several districts along the coastal Karnataka and inland. Heavy Rainfall alert in state for 4 days, issued yellow alert.

The next five days of heavy rainfall alert is expected across the state, with heavy rains expected on July 23 and 24 in several districts along the coast and inland, the State Meteorological Department said. Yellow alert issued in Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall alert are likely to occur on Thursday and Friday, IMD said. Heavy rainfall alert and thunderstorms for next 2 days in Vijayapura, Bidar, Belgaum, Bengaluru in the south, Bengaluru city, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chikmagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Tumkur and Ramanagar districts and issued yellow Alert in these districts. The rest of the districts will receive normal rainfall, the Met Department said.

It’s interesting to note that the forecast for the following five days appears to be consistent with the mid-range forecasts that predicted more rains in the last ten days of June. Heavy Rainfall alert are expected to spread out more along the western than the eastern coast this week.

These inclement conditions over the southern states are being driven by an off-shore trough an extended relatively low-pressure area and strong westerly winds dumping moisture along the west coast. Meanwhile, another trough running from south Chhattisgarh to Andhra Pradesh is also attracting moist winds from the seas.

These weather events are likely to team up to induce isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Goa, as well as the Konkan coast during the next five days. Further, we will also see similar conditions over Telangana and in the coastal regions of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh this Monday and Tuesday. However, according to the IMD, an improvement over south-western parts of Andhra Pradesh can be expected by Monday.
