Delhi Liquors Scam: Delhi Court extended Manish Sisodia’s ED custody by 5 days

Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was produced before Rouse Avenue court, which extended his custody till March 22. The ED had sought a seven-day extension of the AAP leader’s custody. Delhi Liquors Scam: Delhi Court extended Manish Sisodia’s ED custody by 5 days.

A Delhi court on Friday extended by five days the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia who has been arrested in a money laundering case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. Manish Sisodia was produced before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court, which extended his custody till March 22.

This comes hours after the ED sought the extension of former Delhi deputy CM by seven more days. Manish Sisodia, who was arrested by the financial probe agency on March 9 after two days of questioning, is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him last month in the same case.

After extending his custody, the court allowed Manish Sisodia to sign cheques for his family’s expenses and his wife’s medical expenses of Rs 40,000 and Rs 45,000 respectively.

The financial probe agency said Manish Sisodia would be confronted with witnesses in the case. The ED told the court that it had retrieved Sisodia’s cloud data, which had 1.23 lakh email dumps, and it needed time to investigate the data forensically. The ED alleged that Sisodia had discarded his old phone that had information about the now-scrapped Delhi liquor case.

Sisodia’s lawyer opposed ED’s plea for an extension of remand and said no word from the agency on the proceeds of the crime had been received. This comes a day after the CBI registered a fresh case against jailed former deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, over alleged misuse of his official position and using the city government’s Feedback Unit for “political snooping”.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has allotted Manish Sisodia’s official residence to Atishi, who was given the charge of the education, public works, culture, and tourism departments after Manish Sisodia’s arrest.
