Counterfeit Drug Manufacturing: License cancellation of 18 pharma companies in the country

New Delhi: After the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) inspected 76 companies in 20 states, the licenses of 18 pharma companies were cancelled for manufacturing fake medicines, sources said on Thursday. Action has been taken against 70 companies in Himachal Pradesh and 45 in Uttarakhand and 23 in Madhya Pradesh, official sources said. According to the list reported by the media, most of the companies that have taken action are registered in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The license of Dehradun-registered Himalaya Meditech Pvt Ltd has been suspended for manufacturing with immediate effect from December 30, 2022 and permission to manufacture 12 products was cancelled on February 7 this year.

Showcase and stop production notice issued to Shree Sai Balaji Pharmatech Pvt Ltd, Buddi, Himachal Pradesh. After drug inspectors verified compliance, the order to stop production was withdrawn. EG Pharmaceuticals, Vill Mandal, Teh Kasauli, Dist Solan (Himachal Pradesh) were also issued a show cause notice and the order to stop production was withdrawn after verification of compliance.

Athens Life Sciences, Mauza Rampur Jattan, Nahan Road Kala Amb, Dist Sirmaur 173030 (Himachal) has only been issued with a show cause notice. Laborate Pharmaceuticals India Ltd,(Unit -II), Rajban Road, Nariwala, Poonta Sahib (Himachal) was warned and given a reason.

GNB Medica Lab, Solan, Himachal, has been asked to stop production of tablets, capsules, dry syrups (beta-lactam), injectables (liquid injection-vial, ampoules and PFS) sachet and protein powder (generic category). Issued and sent to Drug Inspector for compliance verification.

Gnosis Pharmaceuticals Pvt Limited, Nahan Road, Village Moginand, Kala Amb, Sirmour (Himachal) was issued a show cause and stop manufacturing notice for manufacturing cosmetic. Nestor Pharmaceuticals Limited, registered in Faridabad, was issued a show cause notice on January 30 this year. The organization was re-inspected after submission of compliance. A strict warning was issued with a direction to comply with the provisions of Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the rules framed thereunder. A massive crackdown on pharma companies across the country is still going on for manufacturing fake medicines.
