As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks are closed on all public holidays with some regional holidays depending on the particular state. Regional holidays are decided by respective state governments. The month of September has 16 bank holidays.

The first holiday starts from Sri Krishna Janmashtami on Wednesday 06 September and other holidays like Eid-e-Milad on Thursday 28 September are observed except some states which apply to all banks in India. The operations of most Indian banks are regulated by the Reserve Bank of India and banking schedules and holidays are governed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations.

Public sector banks and private sector banks are closed on Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays. However, people do not face any problems in bank-related work as holidays are not frequent or at short intervals. Because ATMs, cash deposits, online banking and mobile banking will continue to function.

These holidays in September vary from state to state as the holidays are decided keeping in mind the local festivals. According to the Reserve Bank’s calendar, excluding weekends, there are 12 bank holidays in September. The central government has divided the holidays into three categories under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881.

Those who have to complete important bank related work in September should check the list of holidays and plan their work well in advance.
