Above 18 years of age can get Aadhaar card at designated centers. This facility will also be available at Head Post office of each district and other Aadhaar centers specified by UIDAI. Aadhaar applications are subjected to data quality verification before being accepted by the service portal.

Scrutiny of all applications is supervised by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). Aadhaar processing will be completed within 180 days of approval. UIDAI officer Prashant Kumar Singh said, “The recently issued directives are applicable to persons aged 18 years and above who are getting Aadhaar card for the first time.” This change has been made for safety reasons.

This type of verification process is applicable only for those above 18 years of age who are making Aadhaar for the first time. Once the Aadhaar card is created through this process, they can perform Aadhaar update etc. normally, the release said.

Recently, UIDAI once again extended the deadline for updating their details in Aadhaar card without any charges. “The facility to update Aadhaar card information free of charge has been extended for another 3 months. That means the free update is available till March 14, 2024,”.

This service was previously free only on the myAadhaar portal and Fees must be paid Rs 50 at Aadhaar centers. Details like name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number and e-mail can be updated. After March 14, 2024, you will have to update by paying the fee, UIDAI said.

UIDAI has made it mandatory for citizens to update their Aadhaar details every 10 years. Life events such as marriage, change of residence etc. may require a person to change basic demographic details like name and address. Address and mobile number may change when migrating to new locations.

In addition to this, the government has now implemented guidelines for updating children’s Aadhaar details. As per these guidelines, all biometrics should be provided for renewal when the child turns 15 years old.
