Swine flu cases rises with H3N2: Health ministry figures alarming

New Delhi: With influenza A subtype H3N2 virus emerging as the dominant virus in India, cases of swine flu or H1N1 virus are now increasing rapidly across the country, Union Health Ministry data showed on Tuesday (March 14). Swine flu cases rises with H3N2: Health ministry figures alarming.

According to statistics, a total of 955 H1N1 infections have been reported till February. Tamil Nadu (545), Maharashtra (170), Gujarat (74), Kerala (72), and Punjab (28) have recorded the highest number of cases. The number is expected to decrease from the end of March and the numbers are being tracked and monitored, the ministry said.

Health experts say both the H3N2 and H1N1 infections have similar symptoms to Covid-19, which has infected millions of people worldwide and caused 6.8 million deaths. Two years after the pandemic, the rising number of flu cases has caused concern among people. According to the centers for Disease Prevention and Control, swine influenza is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by the type-A influenza virus.
