Karnataka Heavy Rainfall Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in three coastal districts for the next four days.

The India Meteorological Department has declared a red alert for Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, with heavy rain and thunderstorms possible. Heavy rain and strong winds continued to blow in the coastal areas of Karwar and Uttara Kannada districts on Friday.

Trees fell at several places in Karwar, Ankola, Bhatkal and Honnavar taluks, damaging several houses and disrupting power supply. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a red alert (rainfall above 204.4 mm) for coastal Karnataka on Friday, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts, from 8.30 am on Saturday.

This warning is valid for 24 hours. Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada has received 18.4 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday, compared to the normal rainfall of 5 mm. Udupi district recorded 33.4 mm of rainfall during this period.

According to the Udupi District Magistrate’s Office, a house was damaged by a tree falling in Sanur village of Karkala taluk during this period. Property damage is estimated at Rs 50,000. Meanwhile, the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority said that 30 electricity poles of MESCOM were damaged due to rain and wind during this period.
