India has been witnessing a spike in Covid cases for the past few days, raising concern for health department officials. According to the Union Health Ministry, six more Covid-19 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, three from Maharashtra and one each from Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

Covid-19 guidelines: The Health Ministry on Saturday released a fresh set of guidelines amid a spike in coronavirus cases reported across the country. The government also flagged the insufficient Covid-19 testing in some states.

“In the past several weeks, in some states, Covid-19 testing has declined and the current testing levels are insufficient as compared to the standards prescribed by WHO i.e 140 tests/million. Testing at the level of districts and blocks also varies, with some states heavily relying on the less sensitive rapid antigen tests,” the communication to states, UTs read.

The number of people who have recuperated from the viral infection has gone up to 4,41,62,832 as 910 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate stands at 98.79 per cent. The case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

The daily positivity rate and weekly positivity rate stand at 1.33 per cent and 1.23 per cent, respectively. According to the health ministry, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered so far in the country. A total of 1,19,560 Covid tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and 92.08 crore tests have been done so far.
