India records 5335 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hrs; Highest cases in 195 days

India on Thursday reported 5,335 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in 195 days, according to Union Health Ministry data. Daily Covid-19 cases in India breached the 5,000 mark after 195 days with 5,335 cases reported in the last 24 hours, according to the data from the Union Health Ministry on Thursday. The last time over 5,000 cases were logged in the country in a single day was on September 23 last year, when 5,383 cases were reported.

According to the data updated at 8 am on Thursday, thirteen deaths were reported in the last 24 hours two cases each from Maharashtra and Karnataka, one each from Punjab and Kerala and seven reconciled by Kerala. The total death count stands at 5,30,929. The active caseload also crossed the 25,000 mark. Currently, there are 25,587 active cases. The daily positivity rate is pegged at 3.32% while the weekly positivity rate stands at 2.89%, the ministry said.

The total number of Covid-19 cases across the country is 4.47 crore (4,47,39,054), it said.

The active cases now account for 0.06% of the total cases and the national recovery rate has been pegged at 98.75%. So far, 4,41,82,538 have recovered from Covid-19 while the case fatality rate presently stands at 1.19%, according to the health ministry website.

Under the nationwide vaccination drive, 220.66 crore (2,20,66,18,366) doses of Covid vaccine have been administered till now.
