Heavy snowfall in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh: Rain likely in Delhi, Punjab

New Delhi: Weather Forecast: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad will experience light rain and snowfall till January 22.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi today (January 20). Also, heavy snowfall and rain are forecast in most parts of Himachal Pradesh for the next 48 hours. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad will experience light rain and snowfall till January 22. Heavy rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during January 23-26. Rain is expected in Delhi from January 23 to 25.

Many parts of Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura are likely to experience dense fog during January 23. The Indian Meteorological Department has said that the minimum temperature will rise to around 2 degree Celsius in several parts of North West India. The minimum temperature in Madhya Pradesh is likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy snowfall will occur in Himachal Pradesh for 5 days next week. According to IMD, Himachal Pradesh will witness heavy snowfall and rain from January 23 to 26. 5 cm snowfall was recorded in 3 to 4 districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur and Chamba.

“The government is ready for all weather warnings. Officials have been instructed to be ready with their snow clearing operations to clear the blocked roads amid heavy snowfall,” Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said.
