H3N2 threat in Karnataka: 26 cases found in children under age of 15

Bengaluru: Karnataka Health Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar said on Monday that 26 people have been found H3N2 positive in the state and two of these cases have been reported in Bengaluru. “Children under the age of 15 are at greater risk from the H3N2 variant. It also infects people above 60 years of age. Addressing a press conference at Vidhanasouda after holding a high-level meeting on rising covid cases and H3N2 mutation, Dr.K.Sudhakar advised pregnant women to be cautious. A total of 60 cases of adenovirus causing acute respiratory infection (ARI) have been reported in Karnataka, Dr.K. Sudhakar said. Health department staff are not wearing masks for six months. From today, the staff working in hospitals and health centres should wear masks compulsorily,” he said.

“A total of 20 H1N1 cases have been detected in the state from January to March. There is an increase in adenovirus cases. But, there is no need to panic. All precautionary measures have been taken. There is no shortage of medicines. Minister Sudhakar said that precautions should be taken as the temperature rises in summer.

“It is not advisable for people to self-medicate. Overuse of medicines is also not good for disease prevention. People should avoid going out more often between 11 am to 3 pm. Otherwise, the possibility of infection is high, the minister said. “The state health department issues separate guidelines. Swab test is done for diagnosis of H3N2 virus like COVID test,” he said.
