Government has said that RT-PCR test has been made mandatory for flyers coming from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand. Union Health Ministry said, the test should have been conducted within 72 hours of undertaking the journey to India International traveller. Amid increasing coronavirus cases across the world, India is stepping up measures to ensure that the global surge does not bring a fresh wave to the country.

With new measures in place and fresh guidelines issued for travellers from foreign countries, India is keeping itself prepared to tackle any situation in future. The government has now made a negative RT-PCR test mandatory for travellers even transiting through six more countries.

These countries include China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and Singapore. The Union government on December 29 had announced that passengers from these six countries will have mandatory RT-PCR tests from January 1, 2023.

“In the context of the evolving trajectory of COVID-19 cases in some countries especially China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Japan and reports regarding circulation of variants of SARS-CoV-2 in these countries, it has been decided that the existing guidelines for international arrivals needs to be revised and updated,” a press release said.

“As per the revised guidelines, a mandatory requirement for pre-departure RT-PCR testing (to be conducted within 72 hrs prior to undertaking the journey) has been introduced for passengers in all international flights from these countries (mentioned in para 2 above).”
