After the increase in corona infection in China, alert has been announced in India and an important meeting was held today by the Union Health Minister at 11.30 am.

In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases in China and other countries, Union Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has asked state governments to submit samples of positive cases to genome sequencing laboratories on a priority basis.

The Union Health Ministry has written to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in the wake of rising cases of Covid-19 in Japan, United States, China, Republic of Korea and Brazil.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, secretaries said that detection of mutations through the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics (INSACOG) network is essential. This will enable timely detection of new mutations and facilitate necessary public health measures.”

As the number of Covid cases in China continues to rise after the Chinese government lifted its strict lockdown restrictions under the Zero-Covid policy.
