Swamiji voices support for DK Shivakumar to become chief minister

Hassan: In a significant development within Karnataka’s political landscape, Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji of the Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math has openly expressed support for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, stating that he deserves an opportunity to lead the state as Chief Minister.

Speaking at Kunduru Math in Channarayapatna taluk, the seer said Shivakumar has served the Congress as a disciplined soldier and should be given a chance to lead for the remaining two-and-a-half-year term of the government. He added that many across the state share this sentiment.

The Swamiji emphasized that Shivakumar has consistently stood by the party, never compromising loyalty despite enduring significant political hardships. He compared him to prominent leaders such as Kengal Hanumanthaiah, K.C. Reddy, H.D. Deve Gowda, S.M. Krishna, and H.D. Kumaraswamy, noting that leaders from their community have played pivotal roles in Karnataka’s development. Shivakumar, he said, has worked with similar dedication.

The seer expressed confidence that the Congress high command would take the right decision at the right time, reinforcing the belief among people that Shivakumar is destined to assume the top post.

He further remarked that Shivakumar is a devoted follower of the Math and added cautiously that if expectations are not met and problems arise, leaders may once again seek guidance from the Math. “We have waited two years. Looking at current developments, something seems different.

There was a wide discussion even when the Congress came to power. Under his leadership, the party won the election and formed the government. The feeling of a two-and-a-half-year power-sharing pact continues among the people, and it must be resolved appropriately,” the Swamiji said.
