R. Ashok Slams CM Siddaramaiah and DCM Shivakumar for Missing German Chancellor Visit, Prioritizing Rahul Gandhi Meeting

Bengaluru : Opposition leader R. Ashok has sharply criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for leaving Bengaluru during a critical visit by the German Federal Chancellor to the state. According to Ashok, their absence to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Mysuru reflected misplaced priorities, causing Karnataka to miss significant political and economic opportunities.

Ashok, in an ex-post statement shared on social media, questioned the judgment of the state leadership, emphasizing that the Chancellor’s visit was a historic occasion with potential long-term benefits for the state. “The visit of the German Federal Chancellor to Karnataka was not just ceremonial; it carried strategic, economic, and technological significance. Any responsible Chief Minister would have recognized the gravity of the moment,” he wrote. Ashok highlighted that such visits can open avenues for investment, industrial growth, employment generation, and long-term developmental projects. “However, the current administration’s decision to prioritize internal party matters over state interests has cost Karnataka valuable opportunities,” he added.

In his post, Ashok referred specifically to the route to Tamil Nadu, noting that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar made a detour to Mysuru to receive and welcome Rahul Gandhi. While the leaders greeted Gandhi warmly, Ashok pointed out that their absence during the Chancellor’s visit displayed a lack of strategic foresight. “Welcoming one political leader while missing an international dignitary of Germany’s stature indicates negligence towards Karnataka’s larger developmental interests,” he said.

Ashok further criticized the leadership for prioritizing party directives and high-command satisfaction over state welfare. “Leadership is tested in moments like these. Karnataka deserves leaders who place the state above party politics, who understand that global opportunities can have a lasting impact on industrial growth and employment,” he said. The opposition leader urged the state government to reconsider its approach, emphasizing that political loyalty should never overshadow the broader interest of Karnataka’s citizens.

This criticism comes amid growing political scrutiny of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar’s governance, especially regarding their handling of high-profile events and international engagements. Political analysts suggest that missed opportunities like these can affect investor confidence and state image, potentially impacting Karnataka’s position as a preferred destination for foreign and domestic investments. Ashok’s comments have sparked debate across social media, with several stakeholders questioning the state government’s priorities and urging a focus on strategic development rather than partisan interests.

The opposition leader concluded by urging the government to prioritize global engagements and developmental opportunities, arguing that Karnataka’s leadership should embody foresight, accountability, and a vision beyond political expediency.
