Laxmi Hebbalkar’s son’s driver stabbed in city over mining dispute

Belagavi : A shocking attack occurred in Belagavi’s Club Road when two assailants stabbed Basavanta Kadolkar, the car driver of Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar’s son, Mrunal Hebbalkar. Basavanta, a resident of Belagundi village, sustained four stab injuries on his chest, arm, and thigh. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Belagavi and is currently undergoing treatment.

What happened?
Basavanta had stopped the car on Club Road and was standing outside when two men on a motorcycle approached him and stabbed him multiple times before fleeing. The attackers are believed to be from Gojaga village in Belagavi taluk. CCTV footage captured the stabbing incident. The attack is reportedly linked to an ongoing mining-related dispute, as Basavanta had previously been involved in conflicts regarding mining issues.

IPS officer intervenes to save life
IPS officer Ravindra Gadadi, who was nearby returning home for lunch, witnessed the assault and intervened to save Basavanta’s life. Authorities, including the DCP and ACP, along with Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar’s son Mrunal, visited the injured at the hospital. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Belagavi Camp Police Station.

Victim’s statement
Speaking reporters, Basavanta revealed that the attack was connected to mining disputes. He identified the assailants as Shiva Poojari, Parashuram, and Monappa Patil from Gojaga village, claiming that they repeatedly quarreled with him over mining matters and ultimately carried out the violent attack.

Police are investigating the incident and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects. The attack has raised concerns about safety and law enforcement around politically connected individuals and ongoing mining disputes in Belagavi.
