Karnataka Launches Massive Recruitment Drive for More Than 72000 Government Vacancies Across Departments
Karnataka has accelerated recruitment across multiple government departments with over 72000 vacancies announced while candidates also receive age relaxation making this one of the biggest hiring initiatives in recent years

The Karnataka government has stepped up its recruitment efforts by launching one of the state’s largest government hiring campaigns, opening applications for more than 72000 vacancies across multiple departments. Within just two weeks of directing departments to speed up appointments, authorities have released around 15 major recruitment notifications, creating fresh opportunities for thousands of job seekers across the state.
The recruitment drive covers a wide range of government departments, including education, revenue, police, excise, forest and land records. Officials say the initiative is aimed at filling long pending vacancies while strengthening public services and providing employment opportunities to unemployed youth.
One of the biggest announcements is for the Karnataka Civil Police, where applications have already been invited for 3395 constable posts. The Excise Department has also opened recruitment for 1207 vacancies, including Excise Constables and Excise Sub Inspectors. Meanwhile, the Forest Department has announced recruitment for 750 Forest Observer posts.
The Revenue Department has started the process to recruit 505 Village Administrative Officers, including vacancies reserved under the Kalyana Karnataka quota. At the same time, the Department of Survey Settlement and Land Records has invited applications for 560 Land Surveyor positions.
The education sector has also received a significant boost. The Karnataka Examination Authority has invited online applications for 320 teaching posts in residential schools and pre university colleges managed under the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society. These appointments include institutions such as Morarji Desai Residential Schools, Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential Schools, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Residential Schools and Indira Gandhi Residential Schools.
To prevent delays in recruitment, the state government has assigned senior IAS officers to closely monitor the hiring process. Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Uma Mahadevan has been entrusted with overseeing recruitment in 17 major departments. Another senior Additional Chief Secretary has been directed to supervise recruitment in the remaining 34 departments and ensure appointments are completed within the prescribed timeline.
The government has also announced a five year age relaxation for eligible candidates. The decision has been taken to compensate for recruitment delays caused by the pandemic and legal disputes related to reservation policies, which had slowed government hiring since 2019 and resulted in a near complete halt from 2023.
Officials estimate that nearly 250000 government posts are currently vacant across Karnataka. The latest recruitment campaign is expected to fill a substantial portion of these vacancies while improving administrative efficiency in various departments.
Political observers note that the recruitment push comes after repeated demands from unemployed youth seeking faster appointments. Government representatives have acknowledged that earlier recruitment plans were delayed due to financial commitments and legal challenges, but say the administration is now focused on accelerating the process before the end of its current term.
With notifications already released and more expected in the coming weeks, the recruitment drive is likely to become one of the largest government employment initiatives undertaken in Karnataka in recent years. Candidates interested in government service are advised to regularly monitor official recruitment notifications and complete their applications within the specified deadlines.
