Karnataka Heavy Rainfall: The southwest monsoon has regained strength across Karnataka, raising concerns among residents of the coastal and Malnad regions. After a brief lull over the past few days, heavy rainfall has returned, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the intensity of the rains is likely to increase further in the coming days.
Continuous rainfall is being reported from Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru districts. Meanwhile, the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada are also experiencing heavy showers, disrupting normal life. As a precautionary measure, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for all six districts.
Meteorologists have also warned of strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph along with heavy rainfall. With river water levels rising rapidly, residents living near riverbanks and low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer locations if necessary.
The threat of landslides has increased in the hilly regions due to the incessant rain. District administrations have urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert as a safety precaution.
The weather has also turned gloomy in Bengaluru, where overcast skies have persisted for the past two days, with little to no sunshine. Commuters and motorists have been advised to exercise caution, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
While the rainfall has caused inconvenience in urban areas, it has brought much-needed relief to farmers in rural Karnataka. The rains have revived drying crops, and increasing inflows into reservoirs have boosted hopes for a better agricultural season.
The IMD has urged the public to stay updated with weather advisories and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this spell of heavy rain.
