IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Coastal Karnataka for Next 48 Hours

The intensity of the southwest monsoon has increased across Karnataka, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across the state over the next 48 hours. IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Coastal Karnataka for Next 2 Days.

Due to the active southwest monsoon, coastal districts including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada are likely to receive widespread heavy rainfall during this period. Over the last 24 hours, Kammaradi in Chikkamagaluru district recorded the highest rainfall of 11 cm, followed by Siddapur in Udupi district with 10 cm.

More than 7 cm of rainfall was also recorded in Subrahmanya, Belthangady, Kembhavi, and the Mangaluru observatory region. The IMD has also issued a strong wind warning for several North Interior Karnataka districts, including Belagavi, Bagalkote, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, and Yadgir. Wind speeds are expected to range between 30 and 40 kmph, accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts are expected to experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall. Several South Interior Karnataka districts, including Shivamogga, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Davanagere, Chitradurga, and Kolar, are also likely to witness thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds over the next two days.

The weather department said that similar conditions are expected to continue on July 22, with rain likely across many parts of the state. Authorities have advised residents, especially those living in low-lying coastal areas, and motorists travelling near trees or vulnerable structures, to exercise caution during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
