Congress leader’s son booked for assault on police in Davanagere

Davanagere : High drama unfolded in Davanagere after the son of a prominent Congress leader and close aide of a state minister allegedly assaulted police personnel who had come to arrest him. The accused, Hasan, is the son of Ayub Pailwan, Chairman of the Davanagere Urban Development Authority and a close associate of District In-charge Minister S.S. Mallikarjun.
The incident occurred in connection with a violent clash that had taken place earlier on the premises of the Davanagere District Hospital. According to police sources, two groups belonging to the same community got into a fight near the emergency ward over a trivial issue. The scuffle left at least six people with minor injuries, prompting police intervention to bring the situation under control.
Investigations revealed that the attackers were allegedly the sons of Ayub Pailwan. Acting on this information, a police team from Bada Police Station, led by Inspector Gayathri along with constables Kenchappa and Harish, went to the residence of the accused to take them into custody.
However, when the officers attempted to detain Hasan, he reportedly turned violent and assaulted the policemen. In the sudden attack, constables Kenchappa and Harish sustained injuries and had to be admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The shocking incident created tension in the area and raised serious questions about law and order in the city.
Following the assault, additional police forces were deployed around the residence of Ayub Pailwan to prevent any untoward incidents. After several hours of confrontation and high-voltage drama outside the house, the police finally managed to take Hasan into custody.
The clash at the hospital and the subsequent attack on police have led to a tense atmosphere in parts of old Davanagere. As a precautionary measure, tight security arrangements have been put in place to avoid any escalation of communal or political tension.
This is not the first time that individuals close to powerful political figures in Davanagere have been embroiled in controversies. In recent months, names of several associates of the district minister have surfaced in various criminal cases. Earlier, Shamanoor Vedamurthy and Anwar Pasha were arrested in connection with a drug-related case, while another associate named Zameer was caught in an illegal rice transportation case.
The latest incident involving Ayub Pailwan’s son has further intensified criticism against the local political establishment. The fact that the accused allegedly indulged in a public brawl inside a hospital campus and later attacked police officers has sparked outrage among citizens.
Local residents have expressed concern over the growing influence of politically connected individuals and the increasing number of crimes linked to them. Opposition parties have also demanded strict action, stating that no one should be above the law, irrespective of their political connections.
Police officials have confirmed that a case has been registered against Hasan for assaulting public servants on duty and for creating public nuisance. Further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the hospital brawl.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stronger law enforcement and impartial action against offenders, regardless of their political background.
With tensions still simmering, authorities remain on high alert in Davanagere to ensure peace and order in the region.
