BJP surge in Bengal reflects public mandate, says  R Ashok

Bengaluru : Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition R Ashok on Monday asserted that the outcome of the West Bengal Assembly Election Results underscores a decisive shift in public sentiment in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party, both regionally and nationally.

Speaking to mediapersons at the party’s state office in Malleswaram, Ashok described the results as a “historic moment” for the BJP. He said electoral trends emerging from West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry indicate a strong mandate for the party and its allies. “The people of India are clearly endorsing BJP’s governance model. The scale of support we are witnessing is unprecedented,” he said.

Ashok claimed that the developments have unsettled opposition parties across the country. He took a dig at the Congress, alleging that internal divisions and weak leadership have pushed the party into irrelevance. “Congress today stands fragmented and directionless, unable to connect with the aspirations of the people,” he said.

Highlighting the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ashok said the BJP’s consistent electoral gains reflect public confidence in his leadership. “Under Modi’s guidance, the BJP has expanded its reach across states, and the current results reaffirm that trust,” he added.

Launching a sharp attack on Mamata Banerjee, Ashok accused her government of compromising national interests. He alleged that the political environment in West Bengal had previously enabled anti-national elements, but said the latest results would bring a “corrective shift” in governance.

Ashok also expressed optimism about BJP’s prospects in southern states, stating that the party is steadily strengthening its base and is likely to make electoral inroads in Kerala in the near future.

Turning to Karnataka politics, Ashok accused the Congress of resorting to unethical practices during elections. Referring to Bagalkot, he alleged that large sums of money were distributed to influence voters and that there was misuse of administrative machinery. “We are in the process of gathering concrete evidence to expose these irregularities,” he said.

He further alleged that the Congress has failed to maintain the trust of minority communities and is facing growing dissatisfaction. Criticising Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Ashok claimed that internal strategies within the Congress were leading to political setbacks in several constituencies.

Ashok concluded by congratulating Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J. P. Nadda for steering the party to a strong performance in the elections.
