Bike obsession leads to brutal murder of security guard; friend arrested

Kolar : In a shocking incident driven by an unhealthy obsession with owning a motorcycle, a 19-year-old youth brutally murdered a security guard in Kolar district. The crime took place in Uddappanahalli village of Kolar taluk, where Muniraju (45), a security guard, was killed by his own friend.

The accused has been identified as Gangaraju, whose greed for the victim’s bike ultimately led to the gruesome murder. Police say the motive behind the crime left even seasoned investigators stunned.

Muniraju, a resident of Uddappanahalli, was working as a security guard at a private firm named Home Logistics located near his village. During the course of his work, he became acquainted with Gangaraju, a resident of Medimallasandra village in Hoskote taluk.

Over time, the two developed a friendship and met frequently. On December 31, Gangaraju visited Muniraju’s house and took him along, saying they would go out together. After that day, Muniraju did not return home, and his mobile phone was found switched off. Worried family members lodged a missing person complaint at the Vemagal Police Station on January 2.

Two days later, on January 4, Muniraju’s body was found in Narasapura lake. The body bore visible injury marks, and his legs were tied with a wire, raising strong suspicion of murder. Police intensified the investigation, collecting technical and circumstantial evidence.

During the probe, officers discovered that Muniraju’s motorcycle and mobile phone were being used by Gangaraju. This crucial lead led to his arrest, and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

According to police, Gangaraju had an extreme passion for motorcycles. He had reportedly left his home after his family refused to buy him a bike and had taken up work elsewhere. Despite earning, he was still unable to fulfill his desire to own a motorcycle.

When he learned that Muniraju had recently purchased a new Hero Honda Splendor bike, jealousy and resentment began to build. On December 31, Gangaraju lured Muniraju out under the pretext of drinking alcohol.

Incidentally, Muniraju had returned home the same day after performing rituals related to his mother’s death a few days earlier. The two consumed alcohol at a bar and later, on the excuse of drinking again, Gangaraju took Muniraju to the Narasapura lake area.

There, he made Muniraju drink heavily before attacking him with a stone and kicking him on the head. He then tied Muniraju’s legs using a wire taken from the bike and pushed him into the lake, causing his death. The accused fled the spot with the victim’s bike and mobile phone.

Vemagal police have registered a murder case and are continuing further investigation. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting how obsession and greed can turn deadly, even between friends.
