Woman sell her 5-year-old daughter to a man for Rs 500

Mathura: A 35-year-old woman allegedly made an attempt to sell her 5-year-old daughter to a man for Rs 500. The woman, who fled from her husband’s home with her two daughters, was arrested in Mathura’s Farah block on Saturday.

The woman is suspected to be mentally unfit. Reportedly, the woman’s husband bought her with her elder daughter for Rs 40,000 around 6 years ago. The woman identified herself as Rajveer Kaur.

The incident came to light when a call reached the toll-free number 1098, alleging that a woman was selling her younger daughter for Rs 500. Following this, a three-member team reached the spot and took the woman and her daughters to the Farah police station. After completing the necessary formalities, the officials took the two girls to the community health centre for medical examinations.

The girls’ COVID tests were conducted on Sunday and they were shifted to the government shelter home after they tested negative. The officials also found a mobile phone in the woman’s bag with some clothes.

As per the district coordinator of Childline, Narendra Parihar, he used the phone to get in touch with a man named Jassa Singh. Singh told him that he was from Punjab and the 35-year-old woman was his wife.
