Son Carries Body of Man Suspected to Have Died of Coronavirus on Pushcart

Belagavi: As the fear of contracting coronavirus kept other relatives away, a woman was forced to carry her husband’s body on a pushcart to the crematorium in Athani town of Belgaum district in Karnataka.

The woman alleged that she, along with her two children, carried her husband’s body on a pushcart as no other family member came out to help her fearing that the man died of Covid-19. The family had financial constraints and hence used the pushcart, locals said.

Sadashiv Hiratti, a 55-year-old cobbler, died at his home on Wednesday night when his wife, son and daughter were away. He reportedly suffered from heart ailments. When the family returned, they had to break open the door as there was no response from Hiratti. They then found him dead on a chair.

A local resident said that the woman could not manage to find any help and then resorted to using a pushcart after wrapping the body to reach the crematorium.
