The incident came to light when ICICI Bank manager Devdhar Lade went to the Haveri Nagar police station recently and reported a loss of Rs 2.36 crore, a police official said. An internal investigation by the bank found that Kashimat could transfer Rs 5 lakh per day to accounts required for banking operations. However, from August last year, Kashimat was frequently transferring money to the account of his friend Mahanteshaiah P Hiremat. This went unnoticed for several months but recently, while conducting an audit of the branch, bank officials found a large amount of money missing.

Investigation revealed that Kashimat used to transfer money to Hiremat and used the same money for online gambling. Kasimat was addicted to online games and started extorting money from customers. He played rummy and other online games. “When we arrested Kashimat, we managed to recover Rs 32 lakh from him,” the officer said.
