Bus falls into gorge: 10 deaths, 55 others injured

At least 10 people have lost their lives and 55 others got injured after the bus they were travelling in fell off Jhajjar Kotli Bridge into a deep gorge in Jammu, officials said on Tuesday. Bus falls into gorge: 10 deaths, 55 others injured.

The bus was going from Amritsar to Katra when it fell into a deep gorge. SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli said the bus was carrying more passengers than the prescribed limit. As per Jammu DC, ten people have died and 55 are severely injured.

According to SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli, the bus was carrying more passengers than the prescribed limit. SP added, “All victims have been evacuated, and the rescue operation is almost complete”. CRPF, police, SDRF and other teams have arrived at the accident spot.

Ashok Choudhary, Assistant Commandant CRPF siad, “Ambulances were called and the injured were immediately rushed to hospital. Bodies have also been taken to the hospital. A crane is being brought here to see if someone is trapped under the bus.

A rescue operation is underway. We are being told that the bus was coming from Amritsar and that people from Bihar were onboard”. The bus, which was on its way to Katra, met with the accident in Jajjar Kotli area, they said. The bus was reported to have been carrying pilgrims to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.

Local residents and police rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation. The injured were taken to the GMC Hospital in Jammu. Some passengers have also been admitted at Local Public health Centre. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha condoled the deaths of passengers.

“Extremely pained by the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families & prayers for speedy recovery of the injured. Directed district administration to provide all possible assistance & treatment to the injured,” Office of LG J&K said.
