Building collapse: 10 killed, 11 injured; rescue operation under way

New Delhi: Ten people were killed and around 25 were feared trapped after a three-storeyed building collapsed in Bhiwandi near Mumbai early this morning.

As per the initial information, 31 people have been rescued from the rubble of the building in Patel Compound area. A child was among the 11 people rescued by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) officials.

Five persons, including a child, have been rescued so far after the building caved in early on Monday, police told media, while adding that search operations are underway. Personnel of the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) were seen pulling out a child from the debris and feeding him water. Bhiwandi is a power loom town around 10 km from Thane.

At least 20 people have been rescued by locals after the building collapsed reportedly around 3:40 am.
