Kerala-born wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has established himself as one of the key players in India’s T20 cricket setup. He played a crucial role in Team India’s successful campaign in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, where India emerged as champions.

However, following the arrival of young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian team, the pressure on Samson has increased significantly. After Sanju Samson struggled in the series against Ireland, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was given an opportunity in the T20I series against England.

The young batter impressed everyone with his explosive batting performances in the series against Zimbabwe, showcasing his ability at the international level. Now, in the ongoing series against West Indies, Sanju Samson has once again failed to make the most of his opportunities, including his recent outing in the Asian Games.

As a result, there has been growing demand among fans and cricket experts for Vaibhav Suryavanshi to replace Samson in the second T20I against West Indies.

Sanju Samson Fails in Four Consecutive Matches:

Sanju Samson had earlier smashed a brilliant half-century off 35 balls in the final T20I against Afghanistan. However, since then, the wicketkeeper-batter has struggled to find his rhythm. In the historic one-off T20I against Japan, Samson scored just 9 runs off 7 balls before losing his wicket.

In the Asian Games semifinal against Sri Lanka, he managed only 7 runs, while in the final against Pakistan, he was dismissed after scoring just 2 runs. In the first T20I against West Indies, Samson once again failed to deliver, scoring only 11 runs.

Overall, in his last four matches, Samson has scored just 29 runs at an average of 7.25, raising concerns over his current form. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been in impressive form and has performed better than Samson in recent matches. In his last four games, the young batter has scored 154 runs at an average of 38.5.

With his consistent performances and explosive batting style, all eyes are now on the Indian team management to see whether they decide to bring him into the playing XI.

Will Vaibhav Suryavanshi Get a Chance in Ranchi?

India started the T20I series against West Indies on a winning note, defeating the visitors convincingly in the first match under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. The second T20I is scheduled to be played on October 9 in Ranchi.

Considering Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s current form compared to Sanju Samson’s recent struggles, it remains to be seen whether the team management will hand the youngster an opportunity in the second T20I or continue with the same winning combination.
