Digital payment users across the country experienced major inconvenience on Wednesday after UPI services faced an unexpected disruption. Many people trying to send or receive money through various UPI platforms reported that their transactions were either failing or taking unusually long to process.
The issue was particularly noticeable among customers of the State Bank of India. A large number of SBI users reported difficulties while making payments through UPI apps, leading to frustration among people who depend on digital payments for daily transactions.

Users from several major cities reported similar issues. People in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Pune said their UPI transactions were failing. Reports also came from Kolkata, Guwahati and Chennai where users faced problems completing payments.
Users express frustration on social media
Many affected users took to social media platform X to share their frustration over the disruption. Some users said their transactions stopped midway while others reported that their UPI apps were not loading properly at all.
The disruption caused inconvenience especially for those who rely on digital payments for everyday purchases such as groceries, travel fares and bill payments.
SBI explains reason for disruption
Responding to the issue, the State Bank of India said that the disruption was linked to scheduled maintenance work. The bank stated that the maintenance window had been extended until 12:30 pm on April 1.
During this period, services including UPI, IMPS, YONO, internet banking, NEFT and RTGS could face temporary interruptions. SBI expressed regret for the inconvenience and advised customers to use alternatives such as UPI Lite, the eRupee CBDC app and ATM services until normal services were restored.
