The Union Cabinet meeting scheduled for October 21, expectations among employees have increased Dearness Allowance significantly. The key question now is when the government will approve the DA revision, which is expected to come into effect from July 2026.
However, there is no official confirmation yet on whether the DA hike will be discussed or approved during the upcoming Cabinet meeting. At present, the DA for central government employees stands at 60% of their basic salary. Based on inflation trends and Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, the next revision is expected to bring a 3% increase, taking the DA to 63%.
However, this remains only an estimate, and the government has not officially announced the exact percentage of the hike, implementation date, or the timeline for the declaration.
According to a report central government employees and pensioners are closely watching the Union Cabinet meeting scheduled for October 21. A DA hike announcement was expected during the previous Cabinet meeting held on October 14, but no decision was announced, increasing anticipation among employees.
The central government generally revises DA twice a year — in January and July. However, the effective date of the hike and the official announcement often do not happen at the same time, leading to a delay between implementation and declaration.
In the past, the government has announced DA hikes during festive periods. However, there is no confirmation that the October 21 Cabinet meeting will approve the latest revision. Employees will have to wait for an official announcement, after which details regarding the hike percentage, effective date, and arrears will become clear.
How Much Will Salary Increase If DA Reaches 63%?

If a central government employee has a basic salary of Rs 44,900:
Current DA at 60%: The employee receives a monthly DA of Rs 26,940.
After a possible 63% DA hike: The monthly DA would increase to Rs 28,287.
Monthly increase: The employee would receive an additional Rs 1,347 per month.
Annual benefit: Over 12 months, the employee would gain an additional Rs 16,164.
The final DA hike percentage and payment details will be confirmed only after the Union Government’s official approval.
