Q2, Audi’s most affordable SUV, to launch in India on October 16

Bengaluru: Audi has announced that it will launch the Q2 in India on October 16, 2020. Audi Q2 bookings were opened earlier this month and interested buyers can reserve their Q2 for Rs 2 lakh. The departure of the A3, Q3 and the A4 has left a huge vacuum in Audi’s lineup in India and the arrival of the Q2 will help the German car maker re-enter the entry-level luxury space.

Like other Volkswagen group offerings like the Skoda Karoq and the VW T-Roc, the Audi Q2 will also be brought in via the CBU route to take advantage of norms that allow manufacturers to import up to 2,500 units without homologation. Still, the Audi Q2 won’t exactly be cheap and is expected to cost anywhere between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom).In terms of rivals, on the basis of its price, the Audi Q2 can be viewed as an alternative to the BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Mini Countryman and the soon to be launched Mercedes-Benz GLA.

However, it is half a size smaller than the likes of the X1 and XC40 which have traditionally rivalled the Q3 from Audi. The Audi Q2 measures 4,191mm long, 1,794mm wide and 1,508mm tall. It sits on a 2,601mm long wheelbase. The Audi Q2 will be offered with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The quattro AWD system directs power to all four wheels. The engine, which also does duty on the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan AllSpace, produces 190bhp and 320Nm and enables the Audi Q2 to sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 6.5 seconds.

We will be getting behind the wheel of the upcoming SUV very soon so stay tuned and watch this space for our detailed Audi Q2 review, first drive in both text and video formats.
