Heavy rains in Karnataka: IMD issues alert for 21 districts

The IMD has placed approximately 21 districts under a Yellow Alert or has forecast “light to moderate rain/thundershowers” with gusty winds (30–40 kmph). The primary regions affected include:

South Interior Karnataka: Bengaluru Urban & Rural, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapura, Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, and Hassan.

Malnad Region: Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu.

North Interior Karnataka: Vijayapura, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir.

Other Areas: Ballari, Vijayanagara, Chitradurga, and Davanagere.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intermittent moderate rain, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. These early April showers are expected to bring down the maximum temperatures, which have been hovering around 34°C–39°C across the state.

Rain activity is expected to persist in isolated pockets through April 8, with a potential intensification of widespread rainfall after April 10.

Safety Recommendations:

Avoid staying under trees or near electric poles during lightning. Unplug electronic appliances during heavy thundershowers. The IMD suggests harvesting matured crops and securing them in dry areas to prevent damage from sudden showers.
