Mysuru Road commuters get relief: New link road opens direct access to NICE corridor

Bengaluru: In a major boost to traffic decongestion in west Bengaluru, a new 1.5-km four-lane link road connecting Deepanjali Nagar junction to NICE Road near PES College at Hosakerehalli has been officially opened for public use. The new stretch is expected to significantly ease traffic woes for thousands of daily commuters travelling along Mysuru Road and surrounding areas.
The newly inaugurated link road was opened by NICE Company chief Ashok Kheny, who termed the project a “game changer” for connectivity between Bengaluru’s western and southern corridors. With this development, commuters can now directly access NICE Road without having to pass through congested junctions like Nayandahalli and Veerabhadranagar.
Bypassing traffic bottlenecks
Until now, motorists travelling from areas such as Majestic, Vijayanagar, and Satellite Bus Stand had to navigate heavy traffic at key choke points, particularly Nayandahalli junction. The new road allows vehicles to seamlessly connect from Deepanjali Nagar to NICE Road within minutes, drastically reducing travel stress.
Significant time savings
The impact on travel time is expected to be substantial. Previously, commuters took anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour to cover the 11-km stretch from Deepanjali Nagar to Challaghatta during peak hours. With the new link road in place, this travel time is likely to come down to around 30 minutes, offering both convenience and fuel savings.
Improved connectivity across key routes
The link road provides quick access to the NICE toll gate, from where commuters can head towards Hosur Road, Electronic City, and Tumakuru Road with greater ease. It also serves as an efficient alternative route for those heading towards the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, further improving regional connectivity.
A notable highlight is that the 1.5-km stretch is toll-free, as it functions as a link road. This has been welcomed by commuters who otherwise pay toll charges on the NICE corridor.
Beneficiaries across multiple localities
Residents of Vijayanagar, Bapujinagar, Byatarayanapura, KR Market, and surrounding areas are expected to benefit the most from this development. The improved access is also likely to reduce congestion in central Bengaluru by redistributing traffic flow more efficiently.
Future infrastructure push
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has announced plans to further ease congestion along Mysuru Road by expanding the BGS flyover from KR Market to Sirsi Circle. The government is also preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new elevated corridor extending up to the BHEL-KIMCO junction.
Once completed, commuters will be able to travel from Town Hall to Deepanjali Nagar via the elevated corridor and seamlessly merge onto NICE Road using the new link road, eventually reaching Challaghatta and the expressway with minimal delays.
The opening of this link road marks another step in Bengaluru’s ongoing efforts to address its chronic traffic challenges and improve urban mobility.
