ATM Charges Set to Increase From April 1 as Banks Revise Withdrawal Rules
Banks across India are preparing to introduce new ATM charges from April 1. Customers using debit cards may face higher transaction fees and stricter withdrawal limits under updated banking rules.
ATM Charges: Bank customers across India may soon notice changes while using ATM services as several banks prepare to implement revised ATM charges from April 1. The updated rules are expected to affect debit card users the most, particularly those who frequently withdraw cash from ATMs beyond their free transaction limits.
According to the latest updates from major banks, ATM transaction fees will increase once the free withdrawal limit is crossed. Customers who perform additional transactions beyond the permitted free usage will now have to pay higher service charges. Banks say the revision is part of efforts to adjust operational costs and standardize ATM service policies.
Private sector lender HDFC Bank has already announced an important update related to ATM withdrawals. The bank has included UPI based ATM withdrawals within the monthly free ATM transaction limit. This means customers who withdraw money through UPI enabled ATM services will also see those transactions counted under their free usage quota. After the limit is crossed, a charge of twenty three rupees will apply to each additional transaction.
Punjab National Bank has also introduced changes affecting daily ATM withdrawal limits for several debit card variants. Earlier many customers were allowed to withdraw up to one lakh rupees per day using their debit cards. Under the revised rules the limit has been reduced to fifty thousand rupees for a number of card categories. These include several widely used debit cards such as Master Platinum Visa Gold Platinum Rise RuPay Business Platinum NCMC and RuPay Women Power Platinum cards.
For some premium debit card variants the withdrawal limit has also been reduced. Cards such as Visa Signature MasterCard Business RuPay Select RuPay Select Neo and RuPay Select Excel will now have a revised daily limit of seventy five thousand rupees compared with the earlier limit of one lakh fifty thousand rupees.
Bandhan Bank has also updated its ATM service charges. Customers who cross the free transaction limit will now pay twenty three rupees per financial transaction. Non financial ATM activities such as balance inquiries may attract a charge of ten rupees. In cases where an ATM transaction fails due to insufficient balance or other issues a fee of twenty five rupees may be applied.
Bank officials have also clarified that ATM transaction limits may vary depending on whether the ATM is located in a metro city or a non metro area. Major metro cities include Hyderabad Bengaluru Chennai Kolkata Mumbai and Delhi where different usage limits may apply compared to smaller towns and cities.
With the new ATM charges taking effect from April 1 customers are being advised to track their ATM usage carefully. Banking experts suggest that digital payment methods such as UPI and online transfers could help reduce dependence on frequent cash withdrawals and avoid additional transaction fees.
