Bengaluru metro extends services for New Year celebrations amid tight police security
Bengaluru: With just two days left for New Year’s Eve, the city is gearing up for celebrations, and the Bengaluru Police have gone on full alert to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incidents.
Tight security arrangements have been put in place across party hotspots including Koramangala, Indira Nagar, and M.G. Road. Alongside this, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced special metro schedules to facilitate commuters during the celebrations on December 31 night and January 1 morning.
Metro services on the Purple, Green, and Yellow lines have been extended, with select routes running until 3:10 AM to accommodate late-night travelers.
The last trains from Whitefield to Challaghatta and vice versa on the Purple Line will depart at 1:45 AM and 2:00 AM respectively. On the Green Line, services between Madavar and Silk Institute will operate until 2:00 AM in both directions.
Due to expected heavy crowds at MG Road, the station will be closed for entry and exit from 10 PM onwards, though Trinity and Cubbon Park stations will remain operational. Passengers are advised to use QR-code based tickets at these stations as counters will be unavailable after 11 PM on December 31.
On the Yellow Line, the last train from RV Road to Bommasandra will leave at 3:10 AM, while the return service from Bommasandra to RV Road will depart at 1:30 AM. Key interchanges like Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station and Majestic will see the last trains to Whitefield, Challaghatta, Madavar, and Silk Institute depart at 2:45 AM.
BMRCL has emphasized that these service extensions are aimed at ensuring safe and convenient travel for party-goers while supporting the police in managing large crowds during New Year festivities.
