Chitradurga Bus Accident: It is heartbreaking to hear about such a tragic incident on what should be a peaceful day. The details of the accident near Gorlathu Cross in Chitradurga are truly distressing, especially with the reports of the fire that followed the collision.
Accident happened in National Highway 48, near Gorlathu village/Cross, Hiriyur taluk, Chitradurga district, Karnataka. A private sleeper coach bus traveling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga collided with a lorry in the early hours of the morning (around 2:30 AM).
Preliminary reports suggest the lorry crossed the divider and crashed head-on into the bus. The impact caused the bus to burst into flames almost immediately.
While the exact numbers are being audited, reports indicate that at least 9 to 11 people have lost their lives, with some sources fearing the toll could be higher as many passengers were asleep at the time. Several others have sustained serious injuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep grief over the loss of lives and announced Rs 2 lakh financial assistance through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF)

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) shared this update on X, stating: “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May those injured recover at the earliest.”
Rescue operations have been active throughout the morning, and the injured have been shifted to hospitals in Hiriyur and Chitradurga. Local authorities, including the Chitradurga Superintendent of Police, are overseeing the investigation and the process of identifying the victims.
